As reported by iGamingBusiness, a working group of the Irish government, the Casino Committee, has announced after two years of research that the current stringent gambling laws of the country prohibiting casinos should be liberalised, in order to benefit from the effect of the US Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006.

According to the Casino Committee, the "recent United States prohibition of payment mechanisms for gambling online presents a window of opportunity for Ireland." The Committee recommends that the country should grasp the opportunity to attract online casinos and sportsbetting websites looking for new sources of revenue as a consequence of the US anti-gambling law.
