As reported by various sources including various affiliate programs managing casinos powered by Rival Gaming software, Rival is closing business on the Canadian Market indefinitely. Beginning February 1, 2009, Canadian players will not be allowed to register new accounts. On that date, all Canadian players will be notified that they will have 4 weeks to withdraw any credits in their casino accounts (after any pending play-through requirements have been met). Canadian players will not be allowed to deposit and will not be eligible for new bonuses after January 31, 2009. On February 28, 2009 all Canadian player accounts will be suspended indefinitely.

According to Casino Listings Online, "Companies allegedly associated with online gambling software firm Rival Gaming are being sued for some Cdn$464,000 by T2 Marketing, a Canadian marketing consultancy located in Montreal."

However, there is yet no confirmation that this law suit may be the reason behind Rival's decision to move out of Canada. In fact, it does not sound credible that Rival would sacrifice such a profitable market as Canada for a 'petty' sum of Cdn$464,000.

eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) has reported in a press release the extension of its independent testing, standards and monitoring services to cover Internet bingo, sportsbetting and live gambling operations, positioning its influential Safe and Fair certification seal within reach of most online gambling operators.

“This enables operators in these sectors to come forward for assessment and testing with a view to achieving the Safe and Fair eCOGRA seal, already held by some 126 tier one online casinos and poker rooms.", says the press release.
