EC publishes detailed opinion against the Belgian proposal for online gaming and betting

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has welcomed the European Commission’s detailed opinion against the Belgian proposal for online gaming and betting. Maarten Haijer, EGBA Director for Regulatory Affairs said: “The requirement for operators to be established in Belgium is one of the clearest violations of EC Treaty provisions”. Read more ..

EC publishes detailed opinion against the French proposal for online gaming and betting.

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has welcomed the European Commission’s detailed opinion against the French proposal for online gaming and betting. Maarten Haijer, EGBA Director for Regulatory Affairs said: “Today’s action by the Commission underlines that online gaming and betting is a cross border economic activity where EC legal requirements prevail. It makes no sense to create a local Internet market in France. We welcome the Commission’s action and are confident that France will reconsider its proposal to avoid litigation”. Read more ..

Minnesota Drops “Black List” Blocking Order in Settlement with iMEGA

iMEGA, Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association, reports on its website that an earlier order issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) to  Internet service providers to enforce a “black list” of online gambling Web sites has been rescinded after iMEGA and DPS reached a settlement. The ISPs do not require now to block state residents' access to around 200 Internet gambling sites.
