Bills Look to Overturn Online Gambling Ban & Tax Online Gambling Companies
The Wall Street Journal reports that the House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D) introduced Wednesday May 6, 2009, two bills that would suspend rules banning online gambling and seek to regulate it instead. A third bill was introduced by Rep. Jim McDermott that would tax regulated online-gambling companies.
iMEGA Letter to Internet Providers: Reject Minnesota Blocking Order
The Internet service providers Comcast, AT&T, Verizon and others have been alerted by iMEGA, The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association , that they need not comply with an order to block access to Internet gambling Web sites that was issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement Division (AGED).
"Because website operators are not subscribers of yours, have no contracts with you and are not provided facilities by you, you should be aware the the MN DPS is attempting to mislead(either intentionally or inadvertently) you into believing that you are bound by federal law to do what the MN DPS asks,” wrote iMEGA.
