ABC Player
A poker term meaning that a player's betting scheme is predictable.
American Roulette
American roulette wheels have two "0's", 0 and 00, and numbers 1-36. In European roulette there is only one zero. The American roulette table is smaller than the European roulette table.
Ante
A Poker term meaning the first bet made on a hand before receiving the cards - known as forced bet - in which each player places an equal amount of money or chips into the pot before the deal begins.
Baccarat
In this card game, in which a player can bet on only three alternative results- 'Player', 'Banker' and 'Tie'. There are also three variants of the game:
- Baccarat chemin de fer (French for "railway"),
- Baccarat banque
- Punto Banco, also known as North American baccarat, a game of pure chance.
Bank Roll
The sum of money a player plans to risk on a given casino visit.
Bad Beat
A poker term. When a player loses although he appeared to have strong cards, his hand is called "Bad Beat". Two different causes of a bad beat are:
- Mathematically unsound play by the winner via bad beat. Calling a bet despite having no chance.
- A very strong hand loses to an even stronger one.
Bad Beat Jackpot
A poker term. A "Bad Beat Jackpot" is a prize given when a sufficiently strong hand loses to an even stronger one. There are rules and regulations, varying from poker room to poker room, specifying how strong a loosing hand has to be to qualify for the jackpot. For example, the losing hand may need to have in Texas Hold'em four 8s or anything better.
These jackpots are usually progressive, where in addition to the regular rake a small amount is taken out for the jackpot which is then split among all players sitting at the Bad Beat Jackpot table, the losing Bad Beat hand getting the largest share.

Bet the limit
To bet the maximum amount a player is allowed to risk in any game.
Big 2 Poker
A game for 2, 3, or 4 players. Each player receives 13 cards. The object of the game is to be the first to discard the entire hand. The player holding the lowest ranked card begins by discarding a card set. Every player, in turn, either plays a higher card set or passes. This continues until 3 players pass. The remaining player then begins a new round with any card set. The game is over when 1 player runs out of cards.
Blackjack
Blackjack, also known as twenty-one, is one of the most popular casino card games. Also, a two-card hand of 21 (an ace plus a ten-value card) is called a "blackjack" or a "natural"; it is an automatic winner.
Blinds
A blind bet is, in poker, a forced bet placed into the pot by one or more players before the deal begins.
Bonus Multiplier Slots
Machines offering larger top jackpots as incentive to play maximum coins.
Break/Bust
When the dealer or player's hand exceeds a total value of 21.
Bring-in
It is a forced bet in poker that taking place after the cards are initially dealt, but before any other action.
Burn Card
The top card of the deck which is placed face down in the discard pile after the shuffle and cut.
Bust
Used in Blackjack when a players hand value reaches over 21.
Bust Card
The card received which causes the dealer or player to exceed 21 in Blackjack. In this case, the player loses the hand. If the dealer busts, all players who have not already busted win the hand.
Called Bets
Not all casinos offer these bets.There are a number of series in roulette that have special names attached to them. These are placed by betting a set amount per series (or multiples of that amount). They are based on the way in which certain numbers lie next to each other on the roulette wheel.
Caribbean 21
Is a variation of Blackjack. The player must try to come as close as possible to 21 without going over and yet having a higher number than the dealer.
Caribbean Stud Poker
Rules similiar to 5-card stud poker. However, it is played against the Dealer rather than against other players.
Casino Advantage
Also known as 'house edge' or 'house average'. It is the amount the player loses relative to a bet, on average. A house edge of e.g. 1% means that for every $100 bet by the player, the average outcome will be $99 won by the player, and $1 retained by the casino.
Chips
Round tokens used on casino gaming tables in place of cash.
Chinese Poker
Each player plays multiple hands at the same table. 13 cards are dealt to each player. They are then arranged into 2 hands of 5 cards and one of 3 cards with the aim to beat the hands made by the other players.
The 3 hands consist of a "Back" hand of 5 cards, a "Middle" hand of 5 cards and a "Front" hand of 3 cards. The "Back" hand must beat the "Middle" hand, and the "Middle" hand must beat the "Front" hand. If not, the player must pay a penalty to each opponent.
Come Out Roll
The first roll of the dice in craps after a player has made a wager.
Common Card
In the games of stud poker, a card is dealt faceup to be used by all players at the showdown if there are not sufficient cards left in the deck to deal each player a card individually.
Community Card
Community cards are used in the poker games, Hold 'em and Omaha. They are turned face up in the middle of the table, and belong to all players still in the hand.
Continuous Shuffle Machine
A Continuous Shuffle Machine (CSM) is used in a blackjack game to pull cards out of the game to shuffle. A CSM is not favourable to players at all because a player has no chance of knowing what cards are in the shuffling machine and what cards are actually being used by the dealers.
Craps
Craps is a casino dice game in which players wager money against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of rolls of two dice.
Crapping-out
In craps, if the come out roll is a 2, 3, or 12 you lose, or crap out.
Dealer
Employee of the casino who handles the cards, gives out the pots, and monitors the game. Also known as Croupier in the games of baccarat, roulette, baccarat and craps.
Deck
A set of playing cards.
Deuce
A playing card with the number two.
Deuces Wild
A variation of video poker where all two's are wild.
Double Bonus
This video poker is a variation of Jacks or Better with a bonus payout for four aces.
Double Double Bonus
This video poker is a variation of Jacks or Better which offers bonus payoffs for different four of a kinds.
Double Down
To double the bet after receiving the first two cards.
