Five-card stud is the earliest form of the card game, stud poker. It  originated during the American Civil War. It is common to play fixed limit and spread limit games, sometimes also no limit and pot limi. It is typical to use a small ante and a bring-in.

A variant of stud poker. Two to eight players can play. Betting is clockwise, the player with the highest poker hand showing starts. Two cards are dealt face down to each player, one card dealt face up to each player.
