Online Blackjack – The Game

The history and source of Blackjack is still arguable, but it is assumed to have been initiated as a variation of other French games of the sixteenth century like "chemin de fer" and "French Ferme", and was called in French "vingt-et-un", which means in English "twenty-and-one".


The name Blackjack  originated in the US because the game 21 was not very popular when it was introduced there. The gambling houses thought of providing some extra bonus to attract the card players to the tables. They started offering 10-to-1 payout if a player got the ace of spades and  either the Jack of clubs or the Jack of spades, both black. Such a hand was known as Black Jack. This name remained for the game even after the extra bonus was abolished. We must note that today's blackjack hand doesn't require a jack or any black cards. 

Blackjack is now considered to be the most popular casino game in the world.
